Elizabeth Cuba
President

Elizabeth Cuba (President) is the T.R.U.S.T. Specialist at Bob Graham Education Center, a K-8 school. She obtained her Post-Masters in Guidance and Counseling from St. Thomas University, her Masters in Education from NOVA Southeastern University, and her B.A. in Psychology from Florida International University. A "product" of Miami-Dade County Public Schools herself, having attended Coral Park Elementary, Rockway and Cutler Ridge Junior Highs, Miami-Palmetto Senior High and a member of the first graduating class of Miami-Southridge Senior High, she went on to pursue a career in Education, first as a middle school Language Arts teacher at Parkway Middle School for seven years,where she was appointed the Lead Teacher to open the school's magnet program in Writing and Humanities, then for twelve years at Poinciana Park Elementary, where she was a member of the Principal's Leadership Team and coordinator of the schools FCAT Writing program. She is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children each and every day with the ultimate goal of doing all that she can to be a catalyst for the installation of hope in others. Her favorite quote: YOU MAY BE JUST ONE PERSON TO THE WORLD, BUT TO JUST ONE PERSON YOU MAY BE THE WORLD!.


Candy Hertsch
Past President

Candy Hertsch (Past President) is the counselor at the School for Applied Technology Alternative High School. Candy is Miami-Dade County and State of Florida’s Secondary Counselor of the Year. She has received proclamations from the City of Miami Springs, Hialeah,and Coral Gables. Candy is active in the community with Miami Springs Junior Woman’s Club, Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Brazilian orphanage, and various community organizations. Her favorite quote: LOVE THEM, LISTEN TO THEM, LEAD THEM.


Marty McGuire
President Elect

Marty McGuire (President Elect) is starting her 12th year at J.R.E. Lee Opportunity School where she is a member of the one-year old P.B.S. (Positive Behavior Support) team, working to find creative ways to encourage students to re-evaluate and change their destructive negative behaviors. She brings the announcements each day to the staff and students of JRE Lee with singing, daily historical notes, wisdom and enthusiasm. She has been the school ambassador for UWay for six years, the Intergenerational/Service Learning Club sponsor for eleven and was recently nominated to be a member of the school EESAC team. In 1996 her school nominated Marty (and she won!) the middle school Counselor of the Year award at the Student Services breakfast. (And don't get her talking about her kids [Matthew, 18, and Emily, 16]...she'll never stop!) Her motto: "If you want to see God laugh - tell Her your plans!" Marty is glad to be back in DCA and looking forward to a great year ahead.


Ana Ondar
Vice President

Ana Ondar (Vice President) For the past two years I have been a counselor at South Hialeah Elementary. I am committed to helping students and parents navigate through challenging times, while at the same time supporting their educational needs. I received my Masters degree in School Counseling from Florida International University. Before becoming a counselor I worked as a language intervention teacher working for The Mailman Center at the University of Miami. One of the quotes I live by: “Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars.” Henry Van Dyke.


Candy Hertsch
Treasurer

Angelica M. Yanez
Historian

Angelica M. Yanez (Historian) is an Educational Specialist for middle school guidance in the Division of Student/Career Services located at Miami-Dade County School Board Administration Building. She has been previously a school guidance counselor at several middle schools in Miami-Dade County since 1981. Angie received the DCA Middle School Counselor "Exemplary Services Award" in 1997 and was awarded John F. Kennedy Middle School's "Teacher of the Year Award" in 2000-2001 while working as Test Coordinator and chairperson for Student Services


Esther Londoño-Scott
Recording Secretary

Esther Londoño-Scott (Recording Secretary) is an 8th grade counselor at Miami Lakes Middle School. She was previously a counselor at Irving and Beatrice Peskoe Elementary and Wesley Matthews Elementary; where she was named Rookie Teacher of the Year for 2001-2002. Prior to serving as Historian, Esther was DCA Vice President for two consecutive years and was honored with the Sandra Southmayd Leadership Award in 2002-2003. Currently, she is working towards National Board certification in School Guidance and Counseling. In her spare time, Esther is active in Big Brothers Big Sisters and is committed to giving back to the community. Her personal motto: The powerful play goes on and you will contribute a verse, what will your verse be?


Gia Braynon
Corresponding Secretary

Gia Braynon (Corresponding Secretary) is the Counselor at Corporate Academy North serving as Student Service Chairperson and Test Coordinator. She previously worked at Miami Edison Sr. High School. Before coming to work for Dade County Public School System she was employed for 11 years with The James E. Scott Community Association working with substance abuse clients and at-risk students and their parents. Gia completed her undergraduate degree at Florida Memorial University and her master degree from St. Thomas University. Not only is she a member of DCA, she is also a member for FSCA, FAMCS and FCA. Her motto “Always keep your head high because there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
